If you have an interest in becoming a speaker and would want
to join our chapter, we suggest you attend one of our meetings
as a guest. Meet everyone. Check us out. If your interest
is still high, we'd welcome your membership. There are no
high pressure tactics to join. No one must become a member
to participate in our meetings. An individual can continue
to attend every meeting as a guest. The monthly costs are
higher for guest but that choice can be made.
If
however, you wish to be a part of a like-minded community
of speaking professionals, a community where the pursuit of
knowledge and the sharing of ideas is a way of life, NSA New
Orleans is the place to start. Our chapter offers a vast universe
of learning opportunities for our members, friendship, participation
and growth. As a chapter member, you are never in business
alone.
Accelerate Your Career in Professional Speaking
Membership in NSA New Orleans will shorten your learning curve.
The benefits you'll receive by being a member are limited
only by your participation in activities and your use of the
abundant resources available to members. Each month, our program
focuses on one of the Professional
Competencies advocated by the National Speakers
Association. Our members also subscribe to the NSA Code
of Ethics and the guidelines noted in our chapter
By-laws.
Chapter Leadership Awards
NSA
New Orleans also offers opportunities for members to grow
their leadership and service skills. Our chapter has long
recognized the Chapter
Members of the Year. In 2004, the Board of Directors
created a new leadership award named after the original recipient,
Billy Arcement. The Billy
Arcement Leadership Award which will become an
annual presentation, is the highest award for service a member
can receive and is equivalent in statue to the Cavett,
the most prestigious award given annually by the National
Speakers Association to one of its over 4000 members.
Membership Levels:
Apprentice
Members: If you have no experience speaking but want
to learn about the profession, join as an Apprentice Member.
Annual dues are $ 125.00. You will receive lower monthly charges
for chapter meetings and have the opportunity to learn the
steps to grow your membership to the next level. On occasion,
the chapter will offer special topic sessions on the business
of speaking before or following the regular meetings. These
free sessions are hosted by experienced chapter members and
are open to Apprentice members as well. It’s the little
lagniappe we offer with membership in our chapter.
National Members: The criteria for becoming a national member includes these options:
- Providing supporting documentation that you have received monetary payment for at least 20 presentations within the past 12 months.
- Providing supporting documentation that you conducted at least 20 presentations to audiences of 15 or more as part of a salaried position within the past 12 months
- Providing supporting documentation that you earned at least $25,000 giving presentations during the past 12 months.
The documentation must be submitted to our national organization. If accepted, you must join national and the local chapter. More specific information on each category of membership can be reviewed at www.nsaspeaker.org. Local dues for national members are $95.00 per year and includes a listing on this website.
Don’t feel like you know enough to become a national member? Here are two options for your consideration:
- Join the New Orleans Chapter and become a regular attendee of our meetings. By doing so, you will have the opportunity to listen to some of the best speakers in the country and, at the same time, learn about the business of speaking.
- Investigate the benefits of the “ Academy of Professional Speaking” at http://www.academyforprofessionalspeaking.org/. You get all the benefits of a national membership without having to meet the membership criteria.
